Grown at an altitude of 1,900 – 2,200 meters in the Guji Alaka District which is located in the Oromia region. The beans undergo a natural process. They are sun-dried on patios and harvested from October – January. The METAD Agricultural Development PLC is family owned and operates the Hambela Coffee Estate. METAD provides employment to the local community with 70% of the workforce consisting of women. It provides educational opportunities by sponsoring a state-of-the-art elementary school and medical support through its partnership with Grounds for Health. METAD provides technical assistance and use of modern farm equipment to other farmers in the area. METAD has the first and only private SCAA certified quality control lab in Africa. The lab trains African and international coffee professionals.
